National Service Scheme (NSS) UNIT – 1281

About the NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is an Indian government-sponsored public service program conducted by the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports of the Government of India. Popularly known as NSS, the scheme was launched in Gandhiji's Centenary year, 1969. In May 1969, a conference of student representatives (of universities and institutions of higher education) convened by the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission also unanimously agreed that a national service scheme could be an instrument for national integration. On 24 September 1969, the then Union Education Minister V.K.R.V. Rao launched the NSS at 37 universities in all states. The scheme has been extended to all states and universities in the country.

NSS - BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Events Details

The National Service Scheme (NSS) and Youth Red Cross (YRC) of NPR College of Engineering & Technology, Natham conducted a blood donation camp for the students on 12.03.2020 at the college campus at 10 a.m. During the inaugural function, Final year Mechanical Engineering student Mr.S.Manickapandi delivered the welcome address.  Principal Dr.J.Sundararajan felicitated the gathering and explained the significance of blood donation. Dr.K.K.ShyamUmasankar, Executive Director of NPR Group of  Institutions, presided the function. During his presidential address, he explained that blood donation is beneficial to the people in need as well as the donor who feel good about themselves and keep their body stay healthy and work productively. Final year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student Mr.P.NaveenKumar honoured Dr.Kalavathi, Medical Officer, Dindigul Blood Bank. During her address, she explained the procedure of blood donation and how blood donors are benefited physically donating blood. She mentioned that blood donation could be done once in 6 months and the preliminary blood test helps to identify some diseases. Moreover, she advised the students to wash their hands frequently and to avoid crowd in order to protect themselves from corona. She told that it affects the respiratory system and particularly the aged people the most and it does not affect healthy people with immunity. Mr.Surya, Organizer of blood bank, Dindigul advised the students to have AIDS awareness. He insisted not to believe the rumours spread about corona and anybody is formed with symptoms, he has to go to the hospital immediately. He talked about the importance of blood donation. Mr.Nimalan Neelamegam - Workout Wonders Sivagangai have been conducted the yoga programme  for all NPRCET  students . Mr. C. Alagappan , Executive Officer , NPR Group of Institutions presided over the function.  Nine hundred and fifty five students  participated  in this program. This program was well organised  by Ms .I Kavitha YRC Co- Ordinator and Mr.Kaleeswaran , NSS Program Officer.

PAN CARD MELA

Events Details

Pan card mela for Villagers started 10.00.a.m at Govt. Hr.Sec School Sirukudi. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the Mela. The chief guest and speaker Mr.Manikandan Integrated Solutions, Madurai explained about  importance of PAN card. He said, in future all of you must have Permanent Access Number (PAN) for bank account opening and huge amount transaction one to another. The card was issued in order to prevent tax evasion by individuals and entities as it links all financial transactions made by a particular individual or entity. Many students who wish to study abroad and is suffering from financial crisis, can make use of PAN card to get loans from banks or any of the financial institutions.

Dr. M.Nagendran, Block Medical officer & Team, Primary Health Centre Ulluppakudi  have been invited as guests and they delivered the awareness about Blood Donation to the students. Mr. C. Alagappan  Executive Officer , NPR Group of Institutions presided over the function. Fifty five students Donate their blood  in this program. This program was well organised  by Mr.R.Saravanakumar NSS Co- Ordinator.

DENGUE AWARENESS CAMP

The chief guest and speaker Dr.Kanagasabai, Appollo Hospitals, Madurai explained about the causes and remedies about the dengue fever. During his speech, dengue fever, commonly known as break bone fever is a flu-like caused by the dengue virus.The virus enters a mosquito when it bites an already infected person, and the virus spreads through the person’s blood stream. Usually, symptoms of dengue feel like an uncomplicated fever and not easily identifiable in teens and children. Dengue causes a fever of 1040F degrees along with at least two of these symptoms like head ache, muscle, bone and joint pain, vomiting, pain behind the eyes and rash. There is no specific treatment of dengue fever or cure as dengue is a virus. Timely intervention can help, depending on how severe the disease is. Here are a few basic treatments of dengue fever : medication, stay hydrated and  hygiene. Dengue fever treatment involves the use of pain killers, additionally to drink plenty of fluids and take rest. The best way is prevention. Following are some actions you can take to keep yourself safe from the virus: lesser skin exposure, mosquito repellent, personal hygiene and disinfect stagnant.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) of NPR College of Engineering & Technology, Natham conducted special camp for the students from  13.03.2020 to 19.03.2020 at our adopted village Mulaiyur. Special camp inaugurated by our Principal Dr.J.Sundararajan on 13.03.2020. Dr.K.K.ShyamUmasankar, Executive Director of NPR Group of  Institutions, presided the function. During his presidential address, he explained special camp is beneficial to the village people in need as well as the volunteers who feel good about themselves and keep their body stay healthy and work productively. In this camp,SwachhBharath:NSS students has done survey in mulaiyur village and did Swatch Bharat activities at Mulaiyur high school, water tank and temple. they created a awareness among the public about Swachh Bharat event. AIDS awareness camp for our NSS volunteers by Mr.Surya ICTC Counsellor Sirukudi andMr.Subramanian ICTC Counsellor  Ulluppakudipresented  their  address.

NSS unit of NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted a road safety awareness rally in Mulaiyur on 10.01.2020. The Chief Guest Dr. K.K.ShyamUmasankaraddressed about the importance of wearing helmets while driving two wheelers. It was advised to wear an authentic ISI mark helmet. Wearing seat belts during travel, precautions while crossing the road, usage of pedestrian path, evils of rash driving and finally the significance of obeying the traffic rules were explained.

NSS unit of NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Mulaiyur on 27.09.2019. The Chief Guest Dr. K. K. ShyamUmasankar addressed about the importance Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission is a country-wide campaign initiated by the Government of India in 2014 to eliminate open defecation and improve solid waste management. Phase 1 of the mission lasted till October 2019. Phase 2 will be implemented between 2020–21 and 2024-25. We are in phase I end period.Prime Minister ShriNarendraModi exhorted people to full fill Mahatma Gandhi's vision of Clean India. We can able to search the Swachh Bharat Mission Toilets on Google MapsSwachhata App enables a citizen to post a complaint which is then forwarded to the city corporation concerned and thereafter assigned to the sanitary inspector of the particular ward.

NSS unit of NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted a tree plantation programmeon 17.12.2019 at Mulaiyur. Programme officer, Staff and Volunteers ofour  NSS unit participated in the tree plantation activity to plant 45 tree saplings and took pledge to plant more and more trees. The chief guest Dr.K.K.ShyamUmasankar  motivated the students to create awareness among the citizens by telling them the importance of trees in our lives.

The National Service Scheme (NSS) and Youth Red Cross (YRC) of NPR College of Engineering & Technology, Natham conducted a Medical Checkup camp for villagers on 21.12.2019 in the Mulaiyur High school campus at 10 a.m.  One hundred and sixty five villagers were benefited in this camp. Dr. Sheik Abdullah, BMO & Team, PHC chief guest and speaker of this function, during his address good personal hygiene is one of the best ways to protect yourself from getting illness such as gastroenteritis and the common cold.

The Women health awareness camp & Girls Nutrition Awareness rally started at Mulaiyur high school 10.00.a.m covered all the streets of the village and returned back to 12:10 p.m. NSS and YRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest and speaker Mrs.Kamalam, Social Welfare Department, Natham Union explained the significance of nutrition for girls and about the diseases caused due to the deficiency. She suggested the various food items especially for thegirls children, to be healthy. She insisted to maintain the blood hemoglobin level especially for girl children. Anemia is a condition in which the amount of red blood cells in the body is decreased below normal level for your child’s age. To avoid the anemia take regular and balanced fresh food is needed.

NSS unit of NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in IAB Higher secondary school for blind Sundararajanpatty   Madurai on 25.02.2019. In this campaign our NSS volunteers clean the school premises and encourage the school children with fun activities. In this camp our volunteers clean the campus and help the children in various activities.

The Rain Water Harvesting Rally started at 10.30.a.m from Mulaiyur High school covered all the streets of the village and returned back to 12:10 p.m. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest and speaker Mr. V.Boomi ,Panchayat ward member, Mulaiyur village explained the significance of Rain Water Harvesting for ground water level increasing. In our village rain water collected in pond from various streets and maintain ground water level.  He insisted to maintain a water usage, and how to the save water in efficient manner throughout the village.

AIDS & TUBERCULOSIS AWARENESS CAMP

AIDS & Tuberculosis awareness camp started at 11.00.a.m at Mulaiyur high school. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET arranged the camp. The chief guest and speaker Mr.M. John Bosco, ISS Dindigul, Inba Seva Mayam, Sevakkur explained about  the AIDS, it is a life threatening disease. It is one of the most dreaded disease of the 20th century. It has, so far, ended more than twenty nine million lives all over the world. AIDS has spread around the world like a wildfire. It is also retro virus. It destroys the White Blood Cells and weakens the human immune system. HIV majorly transmits in one of the three ways –Blood, Pre- natal and sexual transmission. It takes around 0-12 years for the symptoms to appear promptly. Few of common symptoms of AIDS include fever, fatigue, loss of weight, dysentery, swollen nodes, yeast infection and herpes zoster. Till date, no treatment or cure is available for curing AIDS. The only way to fight the AIDS disease is through creating awareness.

NPRCET organized an Eye camp conducted by Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai,at Government high school,Mulaiyuron 17.02.2018.The NSS and YRC volunteers along with our students participated in the camp. Two hundred and fifty five peoples were benefited in the camp. Forty five above fifty  age peoples recommended for cataract  treatment to Madurai Aravind Eye Hospitals in this camp. During the chief address, the village people are found to utilize less eye care services than the cities and the reason is quite understandable. The main aim behind organizing these eye camps is to create awareness among these people and provide them various services like eye care education, eye full checkups, medical care etc.,  they  conduct the eye check up camps at regular intervals to prevent the people from getting major eye disorders.

NPRCET organized an Eye camp conducted by Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai. at Sirukudi village on 25.02.2017. The NSS and YRC volunteers along with our students participated in the camp. During his address, he explained the importance of eye checkup yearly once. Eye camp plays a vital role in reaching the untreated poor blind people in rural areas. The main objective of the camp is to create awareness among the people which leads an intervention to clear the backlog of avoidable blindness.

The chief guest  Dr.Mohammed Fazil, Block Medical Officer, Ulluppakudi  and team check the peoples for as blood sugar, blood pressure, general check up for 640 peoples were benefited in this camp. Dr.Mohammed Fazil suggested to take  the various green heathy and fibrous food items especially for the above 40 age group peoples to be healthy. He insisted to walk daily at least 30 minutes and do simple exercises for healthy body.

NSS unit of NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Sirukudi on 20.09.2016. The Chief Guest Mr.C.Alagappan addressed about the importance Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, or Clean India Mission Sanitation programmes are not new to India. These have existed even before the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan that was launched in 2014. What seemed to be different about the Swachh Bharat Mission was a defined goal, with a time bound approach that involved everyone right from gram panchayat to state governments to work for a common goal – building toilets and putting an end to open defecation. But with 19 states having accomplished the task of providing toilet access to everyone and many more like the southern state of Tamil Nadu all set to join the Open Defecation Free (ODF) league soon, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan seems to have had more impact across the country than any of the previous sanitation programmes.

ABOLITION OF POLYTHENE RALLY

Rally on Abolition of polythene started at 3.00.p.m from Sirukudi (village) Manthai covering all the streets of the village and returned back to 4:40 p.m. The NSS volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest and speaker   Mrs. Tamil Selvi Nagendran, Panchayat Member, Sirukudi explained about the bad consequences of using polythene. Dr.P.Suresh Kumar, AP/Chemistry, NPRCET explained how polythene, being a major toxic pollutant, cause significant harm to the environment in the form of air, water and land pollution. He emphasized the villages to carry paper or cloth bags when going for purchase and advised them to avoid buying items packaged in polythene cover.

AIDS & Tuberculosis awareness camp started at 3.30.p.m from Sirukudi Manthai covered all the streets of the village and returned back to 4:40 p.m. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest and speaker Mr. M. Raja Mohammed, Meera Foundation, Dindigul explained about the causes of AIDS and Tuberculosis. He insisted to don’t hesitate to interact the HIV positive patients. Nowadays tuberculosis disease is a curable one, our government take care of these peoples to release from this disease. He said, TB patients will take injection two months and compound medicines six months regularly and they cure from that easily.

NPRCET organized an Environmental Awareness Rally in Sirugudi village on 16.07.2015 through NSS and YRC. During the programme Sirugudi Panchayat President Mr.C.Andisamy explained about the necessity of tree plantation and how it influences the environment.

Fire & Safety Awareness Programme held at Mulaiyur Govt. High School  NSS and RRC volunteers and school students of NPRCET participated in the camp . The chief guest and speaker Mr.G.Bose, Asst. Fire Officer, Natham said,  fires are damaging to property, cause injury or death, and can even eliminate jobs since many buildings destroyed by fire are not rebuilt. The way to prevent these dire outcomes is proper fire safety training. Learning about fire hazards is the key to preventing fire from occurring. Fire prevention is a function of many fire departments. The goal of fire prevention is to educate the public to take precautions to prevent potentially harmful fires, and be educated about surviving them. It is a proactive method of preventing fire-based n emergencies and reducing the damage caused by them. Know and adhere to the provisions in the recent apartments ; ensure that all Life Safety Systems (Fire Alarm, Sprinkler, Fire Escapes, Fire Extinguishers, and Emergency Exits) are properly maintained for safety.

Our NPRCET NSS student volunteers service the people in grant Annathanam in Mulaiyur on 15.03.2019. One hundred and eight  students and 3 staff members were participated in this event.

The Children awareness  on clean and hygiene camp for school children in Government  higher secondary Sirukudi . NSS and YRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the camp . The chief guest and speaker Mr.Jaishankar explained the importance of clean and  hygiene for children.  and about the diseases caused due to the deficiency. He advised to clean the hand, face and legs after playing in the ground , it helps to avoid  helminthiasis He suggested the various food items especially for the children, to be healthy. Our Indian government content the ancylostoma  awareness week in February and  August 10th  every year. He insisted to maintain a hygienic and health environment throughout the village.

AIDS AWARENESS RALLY

The AIDS Awareness Rally 12.04.2017 started at 9.45.a.m from Sirukudi village bus stand  covered all the streets of the village and returned back to 12:20 p.m. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest Mr.C.Andisamy President, Sirukudi Pancayath , addressed about the causes of the AIDS and affection of HIV virus.  It has, so far, ended more than twenty nine million lives all over  the world. This virus replicates itself into human body by inserting a copy of its DNA into the human host cells. It is also called retro virus. With the widespread awareness about the disease, much fewer adults and children are dying of AIDS. The only way to fight the AIDS disease is through creating awareness  

EYE CHECK UP CAMP

NSS unit of  NPR College of Engineering & Technology conducted an Eye Check up Camp in Mulaiyur on 29.03.2019 by doctors team from Aravind Eye hospitals Madurai. Two hundred and thirty nine village peoples were benefited. The doctors at the camp assured of a free fifty cataract surgeries of the patients. It just requires proper knowledge, decision making ability and cooperation on the part of family members which make the entire thing easy. This event was highly informative and changed the perspective of many people regarding eye donation who eventually decided to decided to donate their eyes after death.

Free service camp on Home appliances for villagers held on 24.03.2017 at high school Sirukudi. In this camp, our student volunteers serviced the home appliances like Television, Mixer grinder, Wet grinder, with the help of  Electrical and Electronics Engineering department professors and lab assistants. One hundred and thirteen peoples were benefited.

In this camp our NSS volunteers constructed the rain water harvesting well  in village hand pump and Government high school building with the help of our college civil department faculty members. Vice President, Mulaiyur Village addressed about the importance of wearing helmets while driving two wheelers. He was advised to wear an authentic ISI mark helmet. Road Safety in today’s context is the most significant issue which relates to the safety of public on road. Millions of lives are lost annually throughout the world due to road accidents, resulting in huge loss of finance and resources for individuals as well as for the nation. Every year governments throughout the world spend billions on the treatment and welfare of accident victims and their rescue, if they are lucky enough to make it alive.

The Chief Guest addressed about the importance Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the programme includes elimination of open deflection, conversion of unsanitary toilets to pour flush toilets, eradication of manual scavenging, municipal solid waste management and bringing about a behavioural change in people regarding healthy sanitation practices. In this mission our student volunteers cleaned the school campus and many places of villages.

The Tobacco Awareness Rally on 10.03.2017 started at 10.30.a.m from Sirukudi village bus stand  covered all the streets of the village and returned back to 12:10 p.m. NSS and RRC volunteers and students of NPRCET participated in the rally. The chief guest Mr.T.Gunasekaran, President, Parents & Teachers  Association,  Govt. Hr.Sec.School, Sirukudi village explained the causes of using tobacco he tobacco epidemic is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced, killing more than 8 million people a year around the world. More than 7 million of those deaths are the result of direct tobacco use while around 1.2 million are the result of non-smokers being exposed to second-hand smoke. All forms of tobacco are harmful, and there is no safe level of exposure to tobacco.
